MISSION – New Democrat MLAs Pam Alexis and Bob D’Eith are announcing recipients of provincial funding to help make sure local fairs, festivals and other events continue throughout 2023 and 2024.
“Gathering for events in Mission is always a great reminder of what a fun, vibrant and friendly community this is. I’m glad our government can help fund some of our local events that are planned by such dedicated volunteers and staff and give back so much to people in Mission,” said Pam Alexis, MLA for Abbotsford-Mission.
In Mission, seven events are receiving over $77,000 including $52,500 for the 30th Annual Mission Folk Music Festival and $6,500 for the Arts Alive Fest.
This investment into local events is part of the $30 million in one-time grants the province pledged for Fairs, Festivals, and Events to continue the recovery of a vibrant and strong tourism industry and support our innovative arts industry in B.C.
“Whether in Mission, Maple Ridge or across the province, funding for local fairs, festivals and events helps British Columbians connect with their neighbours and join as a community to enjoy music, art, food and sport. As Parliamentary Secretary for Arts and Film I know how far this funding goes in making sure our favourite local events, and new ones, are able to bring joy to our communities,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission.
This builds upon the success of the BC Fairs, Festivals and Events Program funding in 2021, which provided one-time grants for events to safely return after facing the covid-19 pandemic. These grants for 2023 will support a range of events in locations all over B.C., and associated event costs.
