NDP MLAs say grant will strengthen access to health and safety services in Burnaby

Burnaby – NDP MLAs Katrina Chen, Raj Chouhan, Janet Routledge and Anne Kang say community grants to not-for-profits in Burnaby will help organizations buy equipment and build or renovate their facilities in order to improve their services for people.

“People know that B.C. is a great place to build a life and a future,” said Katrina Chen, MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed. “By helping organizations like MOSAIC expand the exceptional services they provide to immigrant communities, we’re making sure that Burnaby will continue to be a vibrant and accessible place for newcomers to call home.”

The Community Gaming Grants program is providing $5.3 million to 49 not-for-profit that will allow them to make improvements, so that they can keep on delivering services to people.

“MOSAIC does amazing work helping new Canadians settle in Burnaby and across B.C.,” said Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby-Edmonds. “This grant will allow them to expand their services and make Burnaby a more welcoming city for people seeking to build their life in Canada.”

Some of the organizations receiving funding in Burnaby include:

  • Multi-lingual Orientation Service Association for Immigrant Communities (MOSAIC)

“New Canadians make our communities stronger,” said Janet Routledge, MLA for Burnaby North. “This grant will help MOSAIC expand their services to immigrant communities and help ensure that Burnaby will continue to be a place of innovation and opportunity for years to come.”

This funding is part of the $140 million distributed annually to not-for-profit organizations that deliver services and make life better for people throughout British Columbia.
