NEW WESTMINSTER – New Democrat MLAs Jennifer Whiteside and Aman Singh say local organizations will be able to keep people safe thanks to funding from the Community Gaming Grants program for public safety initiatives.
“The pandemic has reminded us how important it is to stay connected to our loved ones and communities,” said Jennifer Whiteside, MLA for New Westminster. “In an emergency, the New Westminster Amateur Radio Club provides additional communications support, and I’m pleased that we are able to aid them their work.”
In New Westminster, the New Westminster Amateur Radio Club is receiving a grant for $8,000 for public safety work, such as volunteer firefighting, marine and land search and rescue operations, crime reduction and restorative justice, and emergency response and communications.
“Local organizations enrich our communities,” said Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough. “From providing emergency services to teaching us about the environment, our government will be there to support these groups as we build a stronger B.C. for everyone.”
Over $10.5 million is being distributed through the Environment and Public Safety streams of the Community Gaming Grant program for the 2021/2022 fiscal year. $140 million are distributed annually though Community Gaming Grants to roughly 1,500 community not-for-profit organizations across all streams of the program. These grants help organizations build strong, vibrant communities across B.C.
