STIKINE – New Democrat MLA Nathan Cullen announces funding for libraries, allowing local library users to benefit from modernized technology, enhanced programs and services, and better access to information.
“A library can be the starting destination to so many people’s journeys of self-discovery, whether that be new passions and interests, or learning more about different cultures,” says Nathan Cullen, MLA for Stikine. “A book can change a life, and a library can change a community.”
The following libraries are receiving funding in Stikine:
- Hazelton District Public Library – $144,756.30
- Smithers Public Library – $166,071.15
- Stewart Public Library – $65,222.00
All 71 B.C. public libraries and organizations that help libraries deliver their services will receive one-time grants totalling $45 million in addition to their annual operating funding. This will give libraries flexibility to address local priorities, including longer hours, bigger digital collections and better access to literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.
This funding gives libraries the flexibility to address local priorities while ensuring they are able to meet the evolving needs of their local communities over the coming years.
