NORTH SHORE – New Democrat MLAs Bowinn Ma and Susie Chant announce funding for their libraries, allowing local library users to benefit from modernized technology, enhanced programs and services, and better access to information.
“The City of North Vancouver Library is a jewel in our city, providing a safe and inviting environment for neighbours to connect and access a wide variety of resources and services,” says Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale. “From puzzles to digital collections and, of course, lots and lots of books – our library really does have something to offer to everyone who enters.”
The following libraries are receiving funding in the North Shore:
- North Vancouver City Library – $309,739.23
- North Vancouver District Public – $413,514.44
- West Vancouver Memorial Library – $284,652.02
All 71 B.C. public libraries and organizations that help libraries deliver their services will receive one-time grants totalling $45 million in addition to their annual operating funding. This will give libraries flexibility to address local priorities, including longer hours, bigger digital collections and better access to literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.
“Libraries are not just a place to check out books, but also a place to find programs and resources for people at every stage of life,” says Susie Chant, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour. “I’m looking forward to seeing what my local libraries do with this funding.”
This funding gives libraries the flexibility to address local priorities while ensuring they are able to meet the evolving needs of their local communities over the coming years.
“It has become increasingly evident in recent years how vital the library is to our community as a shared resource for equitable access to information and technology, a space for community connection, and a place of belonging for all,” says Brendan Harvey, Board Chair of the North Vancouver City Library. “We are excited and thankful for this significant one-time investment in our community library from the province. This funding will help us to meet the evolving and growing demand for library services in our community, and will benefit the thousands of community members who use our library every day.”
