NDP MLAs say students at Justice Institute of British Columbia will benefit from more co-op and work-integrated learning opportunities

NEW WESTMINSTER – New Democrat MLAs Jennifer Whiteside and Aman Singh say students at the Justice Institute of British Columba will have greater access to valuable learning opportunities with new co-op and work-integrated learning funding.

“I am so proud of the resilience of students during these periods of uncertainty,” said Jennifer Whiteside, MLA for New Westminster. “Our government remains committed to supporting students throughout our pandemic recovery and beyond.”

The Justice Institute of British Columbia is receiving funding to create more than 150 new work-integrated learning placements in JIBC’s Schools of Public Safety, Criminal Justice and Security, and Health, Community and Social Justice.

“Reducing barriers to education and investing in opportunities for students makes B.C. stronger,” said Aman Singh, MLA for Richmond-Queensborough. “I know these investments will make a real difference in the lives of post-secondary students in our community.”

This one-time funding will expand co-op and work-integrated learning programs and focus on placements in sectors impacted by the pandemic. In total, 47 projects are being funded at all 25 public post-secondary institutions in B.C., creating up to 3,000 new co-op and work-integrated learning placements for students.

Investing in an economy that works for everyone is part of the New Democrat government’s plan to build back a stronger B.C.
