VANCOUVER- Spencer Chandra Herbert, MLA for Vancouver-West End has issued the following statement following the federal government’s commitment to ban conversion therapy:

“I would like to thank the federal government for committing, through today’s mandate letter, to amending the criminal code to ban conversion therapy. Many have called for this action, including the Government of B.C. this past September. The practice generally known as conversion therapy is hateful and harmful to so many in the LGBTQ community. It is nothing more than discriminatory abuse disguised as a medical or spiritual treatment.

“I look forward to working with Attorney General Lametti and all provinces in order to ensure this practice no longer takes place anywhere in Canada.”
