VICTORIA – Maurine Karagianis, New Democrat MLA for Esquimalt-Royal Roads, introduced legislation today that would create a new provincial honour for all British Columbians who served in the Canadian Forces, the Military Service Pin.
“This honour is to recognize these individuals from our province who have made tremendous sacrifices to represent Canada and to defend our cornerstone principles of democracy, freedom, peace and justice,” Karagianis said.
The pin would be worn on the lapel of civilian clothes and would be presented to current and retired members of the regular or reserve armed forces. Members would be eligible if they were based in British Columbia or were a resident of British Columbia.
“This Military Service Pin symbolizes the gratitude of the Crown and the people of British Columbia for those who have served with honour and valour,” Karagianis said.
