New Democrats are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Anita Hagen this weekend.

Anita was a tireless public figure, an active member of her community, and a beloved mother and wife.

After many years on the school board in New Westminster, Anita served her province as the New Democrat MLA for New Westminster from 1986 to 1996, and as Education Minister, Minister of Multiculturalism and Human Rights, and as Deputy Premier.  New Democrats will also remember her help supporting and fostering new candidates and volunteers as they started out  in politics.

Everyone who knew Anita will also fondly recall her warmth, her intellect, and her passion for public education.
