David Eby, MLA for Vancouver-Point Grey, released the following statement anticipating the decision to re-open the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station. Eby will attend this morning’s event at the station (1661 Whyte Ave.) at 11:30 a.m. and will be available for further comment following the announcement.

“My constituents are absolutely thrilled that the federal government under Justin Trudeau is reversing direction on the short-sighted, risky and absurd decision to close our Coast Guard base in Kitsilano.

“As the toxic bunker fuel spill in English Bay demonstrated, having a first-responder agency in the busy Vancouver harbour area is critically important. Congratulations to members of the public who wrote to and met with their federal government representatives to demand the re-opening of our Coast Guard base. Your efforts have paid off with increased safety on our busy waterfront.”
