PRINCE RUPERT – After questioning in the legislature by North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, Transportation Minister Todd Stone has committed to removing pricing that discriminates against passengers in wheelchairs travelling on northern ferry routes.
“Earlier this week, I asked Minister Stone why his government is allowing passengers in wheelchairs to endure pricing policies that force them to pay more,” said Rice.
Passengers in wheelchairs have been forced to pay an additional $30 in peak season for overnight ferry trips such as the Inside Passage sailing and the Haida Gwaii sailing.
“I am pleased that the minister has agreed to fix this problem. But since I have not received written confirmation that this unacceptable policy is no longer in place, I will continue to press the minister until I am confident this issue has been resolved.”
