Today the B.C. Liberals proved once again that they are a government in chaos that cannot get their facts straight about education funding and gaming grants.
While defending the B.C. Liberals’ decision to slash Parent Advisory Council funding in half after promising to protect education during the election, Education Minister Margaret MacDiarmid made this claim:
- “I'd like us to think back to the contribution that was made for parent advisory councils back when the opposition was in power. In fact, if we look back at that amount, it was zero, nothing, no contribution.”
(Hansard, Sept. 14, 2009)
Here is the truth:
- PACs have had access to gaming grants since 1998, when the practice was established by the then-New Democrat government
(Report on Charitable Gaming and Access to Gaming Revenue 1998/99 Fiscal Year).
Carole James and the New Democrats have been holding the B.C. Liberals accountable for breaking their word on the HST, and for backtracking on their election promises to protect health care, education, and other vital services.
