New figures from Statistics Canada prove that the HST will be a big hit to British Columbians in the pocketbook.
The comprehensive analysis by Statistics Canada shows that the HST will have the following effect:
- The average household in B.C. will be out an additional $521 each year;
- A married couple without children will pay $801 more per year;
- A single senior will pay $262 more per year;
- Households with a combined income of $80,000 to $90,000 will pay $688 per year;
- Households making over $100,000 will pay $1,128 more per year.
The Statistics Canada report was commissioned by the Times Colonist.
Carole James and the New Democrats will continue to hold the B.C. Liberal government to account for their HST doublecross and the $1.9 billion tax shift on to the backs of consumers.
