NORTH COAST – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice is welcoming funding to improve local emergency support services (ESS) for people evacuated from their homes during natural disasters or other emergencies.

“As we see more frequent climate-related emergencies, it’s important that residents of the North Coast know they can access emergency support services should they need it.” says Jennifer Rice, MLA for the North Coast. “ As the former Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness, I know this funding is crucial to our communities. Our BC NDP government is taking the steps to be prepared for any type of emergency”

In the North Coast, the following communities are receiving funding:

  • Daajing Giids, ESS Storage and Supplies, $29,965.00
  • Prince Rupert, ESS Capacity and Resourcing Support, $3,892.00

In total, $2.2 million is being distributed to communities across the province. The funding will expand local capacity to provide emergency support services through volunteer recruitment, retention, training, and the purchase of supplies and equipment. This funding will also support the modernization of local ESS programs to move toward digital registration and reporting.
