Services and supports expanded to help evacuees in Vancouver

VANCOUVER – New Democrat MLA George Chow is welcoming funding to improve local emergency support services (ESS) for people evacuated from their homes during natural disasters or other emergencies.

“As we have learned in recent years, being prepared for emergency weather events is essential to keeping people safe,” said George Chow, MLA for Vancouver-Fraserview. “This provincial funding will ensure that Vancouver is prepared with the resources and supplies needed to support people in the event of an evacuation.”

Vancouver is receiving $29,993.37 in funding for emergency equipment and supplies for equity denied groups.

In total, $2.2 million is being distributed to communities across the province. The funding will expand local capacity to provide emergency support services through volunteer recruitment, retention, training, and the purchase of supplies and equipment. This funding will also support the modernization of local ESS programs to move toward digital registration and reporting.
