VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA Grace Lore is welcoming funding to improve local emergency support services (ESS) for people evacuated from their homes during natural disasters or other emergencies.

“Emergencies of any kind are stressful, especially when people have to leave their home,” said Grace Lore, MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill. “By funding the modernization of our emergency support services, we’re ensuring critical relief is there for evacuees.”

Victoria is receiving $26,145 in funding for their Modernization Project 2023, and the Capital Regional District is receiving $18,000 for the Electoral Area Evacuee Registration & Assistance Team.

In total, $2.2 million is being distributed to communities across the province. The funding will expand local capacity to provide emergency support services through volunteer recruitment, retention, training, and the purchase of supplies and equipment. This funding will also support the modernization of local ESS programs to move toward digital registration and reporting.
