VANCOUVER – B.C. New Democrat leader Adrian Dix released the following statement in commemoration of Remembrance Day:
“Today, across our province people of all ages are paying tribute to our veterans, as well our current armed forces, merchant marines and their families.
“Our debt to them is one that can never be fully repaid. To protect and preserve the rights and values we hold so dear, veterans risked their safety, health, comfort and in many cases future. Over 100,000 Canadians from all cultural backgrounds have given their lives in two world wars, the Korean War, on peacekeeping missions and in Afghanistan.
“During shared moments of silence today, we will renew our promise to never forget the sacrifices they made on behalf of our province and nation.
“Thus, the duty of service falls on us now. We must commit ourselves to ensuring these Canadians and their loved ones are not left struggling after they put protecting our welfare and values first. Veterans, armed service personnel, and their families deserve ready access to the supports and services they need, from quality education, medical care, and mental health services to fair pensions.”
