pakistan-895319_960_720Bruce Ralston, the New Democrat spokesperson for immigration and multiculturalism, released the following statement in celebration of Pakistan Day:

“On behalf of John Horgan, Leader of B.C.’s New Democrats, I would like to extend my best wishes to all those celebrating Pakistan Day.

“Pakistan Day commemorates the Lahore Resolution, a major step in the journey towards Pakistan’s independence in 1947. It is also known as Republic Day, as the country’s first constitution was adopted on March 23, 1956.”

Pakistan Independence Day also provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions that the Pakistani community have made to this province’s rich and diverse heritage.

“Across the country, as Canadians of Pakistani descent celebrate the day with each other, we acknowledge the valuable relationship the people of Pakistan have with Canada.

“On behalf of the B.C. New Democrat caucus, we extend our warm wishes for a very happy and festive Pakistan Day, and a prosperous future, to all Pakistani-Canadians.”
