National Seniors Day highlights increasing cost of living for seniors under B.C. Liberals

VICTORIA – New Democrat leader John Horgan and seniors’ spokesperson Maurine Karagianis issued the following statement in recognition of National Seniors Day:

“On National Seniors Day, we want to extend our gratitude to seniors across British Columbia who play an integral role in building and strengthening our province’s diverse communities. Not only is it an important day to recognize the valuable contributions seniors make in our individual lives and to society, but it’s a day to look at what each of us can do to improve the quality of life for seniors in B.C.

“Under the B.C. Liberals, life is becoming increasing less affordable for seniors, especially for those living on fixed incomes. Whether through the Liberals’ cuts to the seniors ferry fare discount, higher hydro costs, or increasing MSP premiums, our province’s seniors are being unfairly gouged by the B.C. Liberal government.

“Seniors deserve respect, and they deserve better. Today on National Seniors Day, we encourage you to take time to appreciate the seniors in your life, but also to stand up for the rights of seniors and tell the B.C. Liberals that we can do better.”
