MASSET – New Democrat MLA Tamara Davidson says that provincial funding for improvements to Masset Municipal Airport will help support the region’s local economy and improve access to key services for people.
“The Masset Municipal Airport is a travel hub for Haida Gwaii and is crucial for getting supplies and people on and off of the island” said Tamara Davidson, MLA for North Coast- Haida Gwaii. “Upgrading aging equipment at the airport will help make sure it stays reliable for years to come.”
The Masset Municipal Airport has received $392,883 for a Refueller Truck Replacement. This will replace the current 1988 International refueller truck that is required for airport operations.
Across B.C., 16 regional airports, heliports and water aerodromes are benefitting from funding through B.C.’s Air Access Program, for a total investment of more than $6.2 million for the 2024/25 year.
Since 2017, BCAAP has committed more than $70 million towards infrastructure projects at 80 air facilities across the province. The program is open to facilities that serve fewer than one million passengers per year.
Smaller airports are vital to a number of different services in our province, including medevac, wildfire suppression, emergency response, access to remote and Indigenous communities, tourism, and economic development.
