Apology from B.C. Liberals victory for family of fired researcher

VICTORIA – New Democrat leader John Horgan released the following statement on the B.C. Liberals’ apology to the family of fired health researcher Roderick MacIsaac:

“After being put through an unbearable tragedy, this apology is a victory for Mr. MacIsaac’s family. Both Linda and Doug Kayfish persisted against a government that repeatedly showed it didn’t care about how their negligent actions ruined the lives of so many people.

“I’m proud to have played a small part in working with Linda and Doug to ensure the government couldn’t continue to cover up this flagrant abuse of power, or continue to ignore the devastating results of their actions.

“Without the bravery of Linda and her family, and our persistence working with them to hold Christy Clark and the Liberal government to account, this long-overdue apology might never have come.

“I welcome the third-party review announced by the government as a result of the work of Roderick’s family, but we will be watching it closely to ensure that everyone responsible at the highest levels is identified, their roles described, and that they are held accountable.”
