B.C. New Democrats statement on Remembrance Day

horgan-2015-rememberance-28VICTORIA— B.C. New Democrat leader John Horgan issued the following statement in commemoration of Remembrance Day:

“On Remembrance Day, people across British Columbia are reminded of the hard work and sacrifices made by our veterans, our current armed forces, our merchant marines and their families. It is a time to pay tribute to these people who put their lives on the line for our freedom and safety.

“We participate in moments of silence on Remembrance Day honouring the many Canadians who bravely fought for our peace knowing that we can never fully repay our debt to them.

“B.C. New Democrats understand the importance of recognizing and showing our utmost gratitude to those who have served our country in wartime, dangerous peacekeeping missions and vital domestic operations abroad as well as in our home land.

“That is why we have proposed the Honouring Our Military Act, which would include a Military Service Pin that symbolizes the gratitude of the Crown and the people of British Columbia for those who have served with honour and valour.

“Remembrance Day is a reminder of our duty to be of service to those who have sacrificed so much for us.

“Lest we forget.”
