VICTORIA — B.C. New Democrat leader John Horgan and labour spokesperson Shane Simpson issued the following statement on the National Day of Mourning:
“Worker safety has been at the forefront of our minds over the past year as British Columbians follow the Coroner’s Inquest into the deaths and injuries suffered in the explosions that ripped through the Lakeland Mill in Prince George and the Babine Forest Products Mill in Burns Lake.
“Sadly, many more workers died on the job in 2014. On this National Day of Mourning, our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the 203 people killed at work last year.
“Workplace safety enforcement and regulation must be paramount in the minds of governments at all levels, of employers, and of workers themselves. Nobody should go to work in the morning with the chance they won’t make it home.”
