BC NDP works to turn corner on BC Liberal mismanagement at BC Hydro with proposed rate reduction

BC Hydro’s request today to the British Columbia Utilities Commission for a modest and sustainable decrease in electricity rates is a step forward in making bills more affordable after years of BC Liberal mismanagement.

An independent report released in February found that the BC Liberals signed agreements with power companies for overpriced electricity that BC Hydro did not need. These deals will cost BC families $200 per year on their power bills for 20 years.

The companies on the receiving end of these deals donated $3 million to the BC Liberal Party between 2005 and 2017.

BC Hydro belongs to the people of British Columbia. The BC NDP government is committed to operate it in their interests, not in the interests of BC Liberal friends and insiders.

BC NDP MLA Rick Glumac:

“These power deals were great for the companies and were great for the BC Liberal Party, but they were bad for everyone who will be overpaying for electricity we won’t even need. Our government is working on behalf of British Columbians while Andrew Wilkinson and the BC Liberals are still putting their rich friends and donors first.”
