MASSET – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice is welcoming $479,877 through the B.C. Air Access Program to improve safety and convenience for people travelling through the Masset airport.
“Airports in smaller communities are transportation and economic lifelines for the people they serve,” said MLA for North Coast. “This grant provides welcome funding for improvements that might otherwise be extremely challenging for Masset.”
The Masset airport will use the grant funding for the replacement of an underground fuel tank, and is one of 16 community airports across the province receiving funding this year. Improvements to community airports will range from runway resurfacing and terminal building expansions, to increased medevac services, weather detection systems and fire protection upgrades, to reducing environmental risks and greenhouse gas emissions.
The program is in its fifth year, and this year’s grants total nearly $8 million in funding. Seven of the 16 facilities will receive funding for the first time this year, and many facilities are located in remote northern communities that struggle to make needed improvements without support.
The New Democrat government under Premier John Horgan is investing in rural communities, and making life more affordable and better for people in every corner of the province.
