MAPLE RIDGE – New Democrat MLA Lisa Beare is celebrating completed improvements to 4 intersections along Highway 7. These improvements will help drivers maintain better control in both dry and wet conditions and reduce risk of rear-end collisions.
“Transportation and infrastructure needs in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows went by unaddressed for far too long,” said MLA Beare. “This government is taking a different approach. We’re delivering safe and effective infrastructure that will keep people moving through this busy corridor.”
The improvements include applying a specialized aggregate and resin treatment. It has been applied at:
- 203 Street intersection (eastbound) in Maple Ridge
- 207 Street intersection (eastbound) in Maple Ridge
- Laity Street intersection (eastbound) in Maple Ridge
- Kennedy Road intersection (eastbound/westbound) in Pitt Meadows
The improved intersections were selected for the treatment because they were identified as high-collision locations. The application toughens the road surface to reduce skidding and helps vehicles come to a complete stop, quickly and safely.
The $3.9-million project is a partnership between the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and ICBC, and selected intersections were announced last year. Now, all 14 intersections have been completed. ICBC will be monitoring these intersections to determine effectiveness and whether the treatment will be used at other locations.
