VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA Nicholas Simons is welcoming new child care funding for the shíshálh (Sechelt) Nation, and the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society, as part of the B.C. government’s Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) agreement with the Government of Canada.
“For too long service providers on the Sunshine Coast have had difficulty providing the necessary support for children with extra support needs,” said Nicholas Simons, MLA Powell River-Sunshine Coast. “This new provincial and federal funding will go a long way in ensuring that families on the Coast have better access to quality care for their children.”
The Sechelt Nation and Sunshine Coast Community Services Society are just two of the 83 organizations across the province that will be sharing $30 million in funding. The funding which will be allotted over the next three years is aimed at expanding and enhancing the province’s Supported Child Development and Aboriginal Supported Child Development programs for families with extra support needs.
