VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA Nicholas Simons is welcoming $235,800 in funding for arts, culture, and sport not-for-profit organizations through the Community Gaming Grants program. 14 organizations in Sechelt, Gibsons, Roberts Creek, and Madeira Park are receiving funding including Deer Crossing The Art Farm and Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association.
“From strengthened bonds within the community to healthier routines and lifestyles, the benefits of participating in local programming are widespread,” said Nicholas Simons, MLA Powell River-Sunshine Coast. “Today’s funding announcement will go a long way in supporting the visibility and vibrancy of local arts, culture, and sport organizations for people along the lower Sunshine Coast.”
Over 700 not-for-profit organizations around the province are receiving approximately $18 million to deliver performing arts, literature, heritage and cultural programs for people of all ages.
The Province is also providing approximately $27.5 million to more than 850 sport sector organizations in 2018-19. These programs create opportunities for people who would not otherwise be able to participate and who can benefit from organized, competitive physical activities in their community.
The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in British Columbia each year.
