POWELL RIVER – New Democrat MLA Nicholas Simons is welcoming $301,750 in funding for arts, culture, and sport not-for-profit organizations through the Community Gaming Grants program. 14 local organizations are receiving funding including the Powell River Academy of Music and the Powell River Minor Hockey Association.
“Today’s funding announcement will go a long way in supporting the programming and visibility of local arts, culture, and sport organizations in Powell River,” said Nicholas Simons, MLA Powell River-Sunshine Coast. “As a musician myself, I am always delighted to see investments in the arts. I hope this funding boost will help more people in our community get active and discover all that our city has to offer.”
Over 700 not-for-profit organizations around the province are receiving approximately $18 million to deliver performing arts, literature, heritage and cultural programs for people of all ages.
The Province is also providing approximately $27.5 million to more than 850 sport sector organizations in 2018-19. These programs create opportunities for people who would not otherwise be able to participate and who can benefit from organized, competitive physical activities in their community.
The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in British Columbia each year.
