PORT MOODY – Local MLA Rick Glumac is reminding everyone in the Tri-Cities that the deadline to register and vote in the referendum on electoral reform is fast approaching.
“British Columbians have a historic opportunity to change the way we send our local representatives to the legislature,” said Glumac. “We’re getting down to the wire on this referendum and I encourage all Tri-City residents to make their voice heard by submitting their ballots as soon as possible.”
Glumac said that if you don’t already have your ballot, the deadline to register to vote or request a voting package is this Friday, November 23rd at midnight.
“Ballots need to be received by Election BC by November 30th and in addition to mail, voters can also drop off their ballots at their nearest Referendum Service Office location,” said Glumac. The closest location to people in the Tri Cities is at 310-1194 Lansdowne Dr. in Coquitlam.
Glumac also reminded voters that should the referendum pass, British Columbians will have the chance to vote again in a confirmation referendum after two full election cycles. This will ensure British Columbians have a second opportunity to have their say on our electoral system.
To request a voting package, eligible voters can visit elections.bc.ca/ovr, call 1-800-661-8683, or visit a Referendum Service Office location or Service BC Centre in person.
