VICTORIA – New Democrat MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard is welcoming $506,100 in funding for arts, culture and sport not-for-profit organizations through the Community Gaming Grants program. 21 local organizations are receiving funding, including the Comox Valley Minor Hockey Association and the Comox Valley Art Gallery.
“These organizations play a key role in the health and vitality of our community. These programs encourage creativity, inspire our youth, attract new residents and create hundreds of jobs in the region.” said Ronna-Rae Leonard MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “I am pleased to see our government support our community by investing in our arts, culture and sport organizations.”
Over 700 not-for-profit organizations around the province are receiving approximately $18 million to deliver performing arts, literature, heritage and cultural programs for people of all ages.
The Province is also providing approximately $27.5 million to more than 850 sport sector organizations in 2018-19. These programs create opportunities for people who would not otherwise be able to participate and who can benefit from organized, competitive physical activities in their community.
The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in British Columbia each year.
