COQUITLAM – New Democrat MLA Selina Robinson is welcoming new child care investments for Kid’s Cottage Daycare Society, Hami’s Playhouse Infant & Toddler, and Little Scholars YMCA Child Care in Coquitlam. Local families are set to benefit from 89 funded child care spaces with fees capped at $200 per month or eliminated altogether.
The initiative is part of a B.C. government pilot project that will deliver $10-a-day (or less) child care to parents. Child care providers participating in the pilot project will receive government funding to cover their operational and administrative costs, and in return, fees will be eliminated or capped at a maximum of $200 per month.
“For too long Coquitlam families have been struggling with exorbitant child care costs,” said Robinson. “Our government is following through with our promise to deliver affordable, quality child care and these three pilot sites will help make life more affordable for the parents of over 80 children.”
Kid’s Cottage Daycare Society, Hami’s Playhouse Infant & Toddler, and Little Scholars YMCA Child Care are just three of the 53 organizations across the province that will be participating in the pilot project to deliver universal, affordable child care. This funding is a part of the B.C. government’s $60 million Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) agreement with the Government of Canada.
