PRINCE RUPERT – New Democrat MLA Jennifer Rice is welcoming provincial funding from B.C.’s Economic Recovery Plan for improvements to the Nusatsum and Clayton Forest Service Roads in Bella Coola.

“Our New Democrat government is committed to having an economic recovery that works for people in communities all around B.C.,” said Rice, MLA for North Coast. “Improvements to these roads are important to local residents and are also vital for a successful comeback of the tourism economy in the valley. By making travel on these roads safer and easier, these projects will make a big difference in people’s lives.”

Funding for the projects on the two roads is part of a one-time investment of $28 million provided through B.C.’s Economic Recovery Plan to upgrade provincial side, secondary, and forest service roads around the province. This funding is part of $418 million allocated to revitalize community infrastructure, enhance connections between communities, and get people back to work.

The funding is being administered via two programs, $20 million for 80 projects as part of the Remote and Rural Communities program, through the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and $8 million for 75 projects through Enhanced Forest Service Road Maintenance administered by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resources and Rural Development.

As part of the Economic Recovery Plan, New Democrats are investing in vital infrastructure, creating local jobs, supporting small businesses and building a stronger economy that works for everyone.
