NDP’s Katrine Conroy sworn into Legislature as Kootenay West MLA

VICTORIA – Katrine Conroy was sworn into the Legislature virtually today as the newly re-elected BC New Democrat MLA for Kootenay West following an historic election.

The 57 new BC NDP members were sworn in as part of part of British Columbia’s 42nd Parliament, all focused on supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic and delivering on their commitments to British Columbians.

“I feel very honoured that the people of B.C. have put their trust in a majority NDP government to carry on with our work making life better for people, and to lead our province through these difficult times,” said Conroy. “I’m pleased to be taking my seat in the Legislature along with new colleagues from our region— this Legislature will have very strong voices representing Kootenay Boundary and rural B.C.”

The election of this New Democrat caucus features a number of notable milestones, including:

  • First majority-women governing caucus in Canadian history
  • Largest BC NDP caucus in history
  • Highest number of IBPOC MLAs ever in a caucus in BC

British Columbians put their trust in New Democrats to lead the province’s pandemic recovery, and this diverse team will ensure no one gets left behind as we move forward.
