NDP’s Ronna-Rae Leonard sworn into Legislature as Courtenay-Comox MLA

VICTORIA – Ronna-Rae Leonard was sworn into the Legislature virtually today, as the new BC New Democrat MLA for Courtenay-Comox following an historic election.

The 57 new BC NDP members were sworn in as part of part of British Columbia’s 42nd Parliament, all focused on supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic and delivering on their commitments to British Columbians.

“I want to extend a huge thank you to my community for electing me for a second term in Courtenay-Comox,” said MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard. “I’ve worked hard to deliver on better seniors’ care, more health care assistant seats and supportive housing. We know these issues will be increasingly important as COVID-19 remains with us and I’m ready to continue advocating for the people of the Comox Valley in Victoria.”

The election of this New Democrat caucus features a number of notable milestones, including:

  • First majority-women governing caucus in Canadian history
  • Largest BC NDP caucus in history
  • Highest number of IBPOC MLAs ever in a caucus in BC

British Columbians put their trust in New Democrats to lead the province’s pandemic recovery, and this diverse team will ensure no one gets left behind as we move forward.
