VICTORIA – New Democrat education critic Rob Fleming released the following statement in response to today’s announcement that teachers intend to move to a full-scale strike if a deal cannot be reached:
“We’re on the brink of a full-scale strike in our schools and it is parents and kids who are caught in the middle. The teachers have indicated that they’re ready to get a deal and keep our schools open. It’s time for both sides to sit down and get serious about negotiation.
“The B.C. Liberal government needs to start acting like adults and take responsibility for the chaos they have created over more than a decade of confrontation in our public education system. Parents and students deserve a deal that puts public education first.”
