VICTORIA – New Democrat leader John Horgan released the following statement on the death of Chief Marjorie McRae:

“This week, British Columbia lost a steadfast voice for First Nations, a passionate advocate for children and families, a leader and a friend and mentor to many in the Gitxsan Nation and beyond with the passing of Chief Marjorie McRae.

“Chief McRae’s legacy is one of strength, caring, and most of all love.  You only have to say her name to hear too many stories to count.  Stories of her reaching out to help families, of the difference she made in her community and of her firm voice speaking for First Nations at the provincial and federal levels.

“My thoughts are with her family, her community, and the many friends she has throughout this province.”
